Mexican boxer Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz is under fire after failing to shake hands with his opponent and compatriot José ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela at their first press conference ahead of the fight to defend his new world title on August 3.

For this reason, the Aztec fighter offered a series of statements to the media in which he decided to explain the entire situation that occurred at that time and assured that Valenzuela is trying to “play the victim” so that everyone forgets the actions he committed in the past.

“He started talking like many fighters do these days, he said he could knock me out and that I should give him the chance and his time has come, let’s see what he’s made of and see if it’s true how he talked in his time… the time has come to measure ourselves in the ring,” he said.

Regarding the criticism he received for not shaking his opponent’s hand during the press conference, Pitbull Cruz, who is currently the super lightweight champion, stated that this is not something that really represents a problem for any fighter and stressed that he is simply looking for favoritism before the fight.

“He still had the nerve and now he’s playing the victim because we didn’t shake his hand. Now everything in the ring has to be paid for,” declared the World Boxing Association (WBA) champion.

“I’m going to speak in the ring like I did in my last fight, and I’m going to let the people of Los Angeles see that we’re good fighters. We’re going to consolidate ourselves in the category,” concluded the Aztec fighter, highlighting his confidence in being able to emerge victorious from this fight against ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela.
