The New York Mets’ 2024 season did not start in the best way. Even with 70 games played, the Mets had a losing record and were far from qualifying for the playoffs.

However, now with the second half of the season underway, the team led by Carlos Mendoza was able to turn the situation around and not only are they on a positive streak, but they are now in playoff positions via the National League wild card.

A streak of seven wins in their last 10 games or 13 in their last 20 has seen the Mets climb not only in the wild-card race, but even in their division, where they are just one game behind the second-place Atlanta Braves.

The Mets, with a 54-48 record, are currently nine games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East and in wild-card spots alongside the Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres.

The Queens franchise has exactly 60 games left in the regular season and if they maintain this winning pace, they would almost certainly make the playoffs. They missed out on a playoff spot last season when they finished with a losing record.

Francisco Lindor, the driving force behind the metropolitan rebirth

One of the key pieces that the New York Mets have had for this offensive awakening that has led them to get into playoff positions has been Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor.

The talented shortstop is the team’s leader in home runs with 22 and in stolen bases with 20. In addition to 107 hits and 62 RBIs for an average of .258.

In Lindor’s last 30 games with the Mets, he’s batting .307 with nine homers and 23 RBIs. So it’s no coincidence that the team’s winning streak is related to Lindor’s offensive streak.
