Taco Bell introduced new “Cheesy Street Chalupas,” which fuse street taco inspiration with the flavors of Taco Bell and Quesalupa-inspired cheesy chalupa tortillas.

Cheesy Street Chalupas are tortilla-sized and served in a two-pack, with traditional street taco ingredients like onions and cilantro all wrapped in chalupa tortillas stuffed with melted mozzarella and pepperjack cheeses.

Consumers can enjoy a choice of slow-roasted Cantina chicken or grilled marinated steak, topped with a jalapeño ranch sauce. The new menu item, which was piloted in October 2023, is now available nationwide for $5.49 a la carte, for a limited time and while supplies last.

Inspired by the flavors of street food

Street vendors are known for honoring tradition and heritage by infusing their own flavorful twist on each dish. Inspired by Hispanic and Latino cultural trendsetters and their unique takes on the taco, Taco Bell developed its legendary Chalupa to fuse ingredients often found in the iconic street taco.

An ode to taco and street food culture, the “Cheesy Street Chalupas” are the latest in many mouthwatering transformations of Chalupas since they debuted in 1999.

“The Chalupa has taken many delicious forms over the years, but with Cheesy Street Chalupas, we set out to create a new flavor-rich way for fans to enjoy this beloved menu item,” said Luis Restrepo, vice president of product innovation for Taco Bell. “Fresh onions and cilantro over layers of perfectly seasoned cheese and premium protein add a different flavor profile and are our fun nod to the street taco we all know and love.”

Supporting entrepreneurs

As Taco Bell’s menu has long been inspired by the flavors of Mexico and other Latin American countries, the brand has been on a mission to support street food entrepreneurs who are at the forefront of food culture. These culinary experts continue to inspire with their ingenuity, dedication and tenacity, creating positive impacts in their local communities.

However, they often face financial challenges and permitting hurdles that limit their ability to run a successful business, so Taco Bell is taking steps to help alleviate barriers for these entrepreneurs by gifting them fully-funded, permit-compliant street carts.

Over the past two years, in partnership with Revolution Carts, Taco Bell has donated 26 carts and will have donated a total of 46 street-legal food carts by the end of this summer to empower food entrepreneurs throughout Southern California serving tacos, tamales, burritos and more. Each Revolution cart is custom-designed to visually express the recipient’s unique personal and business style, complete with mobile-friendly umbrellas and accessories.

“When it comes to supporting the communities that inspire our food innovation, we are just getting started,” Restrepo said. “The donation of 46 street-legal food stands is the first in a long-term commitment we have with these entrepreneurs, with more to come in the years to come.”

Southern California fans can attend the upcoming in-person “Taco Tuesdays” event. Come support the street market community on August 13th, 5pm-10pm PT at 860 Traction Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90013 and enjoy music, local food for purchase, art, and the chance to hear the recipients’ unique stories as they unveil their custom “Revolution Carts” surrounded by family and community.
