A man has died after being shot at a busy shopping mall in Columbia, Maryland, a suburb located between Baltimore and Washington DC, last Saturday, local authorities reported.
According to the Howard County Sheriff’s Department, they received an emergency call around 6:10 p.m., reporting shots fired in the food court area of the mall. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a man who had been fatally shot.
Police have determined that the individuals involved in the shooting left the mall immediately after the incident, based on initial investigations. In the meantime, detectives are working on the theory that the victim was the specific target of this violent act.
Local authorities have assured the public that the investigation is ongoing and every effort is being made to bring those responsible to justice. They also asked anyone with information about the incident to contact Howard County Police.
The recent shooting was not the first such incident at the mall. In January 2014, the mall was the scene of another shooting in which three people were killed after a man armed with a shotgun shot two people before taking his own life.
