American actor Robert Downey Jr. caused a real media revolution after revealing his return to Marvel as one of the House of Ideas’ most important villains: Doctor Doom.
It was during Comic-Con 2024, which marked Marvel’s return to the most important convention in the world of superheroes and other film and television productions, where the Oscar-winning actor appeared dressed in a green suit and a silver mask, just like the classic Marvel character.
Prior to his presentation, Marvel’s current CEO, Kevin Feige, revealed two important pieces of news that clarified the company’s direction following the departure of Jonathan Majors as the main villain of the current saga due to an accusation of assault by his ex-girlfriend.
The Russo brothers are also back
First, Feige mentioned that the Russo brothers, responsible for some of the company’s most important films such as “Captain America: Civil War”, “The Avengers: Infinity War”, among others, will return to direct the two new Avengers films: “Doomsday”, to be released in May 2026, and “Secret Wars”, planned to be released a year later in 2027.

Following Feige’s revelation, Downey Jr. appeared on stage, wearing a mask, alongside several people in green hoods and silver masks.
In an instant, the “Doolittle” singer removed his hood and then removed his mask to reveal his identity, causing a deafening ovation from those present.
Following his appearance, Downey Jr. addressed the audience, saying, “Same mask, new task.”
The reveal of Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom, one of the main villains of Marvel’s first family of superheroes, the Fantastic Four, and other heroes such as the Avengers, made it clear that the villain will become the main antagonist of the upcoming projects.
Despite the above, the exact number of projects in which the American actor will be part of Marvel was not revealed, after becoming one of the main protagonists of the first phases of the company.
Prior to the revelation of Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chilean-born actor Pedro Pascal released the first image from the filming of the movie “Fantastic Four” alongside his co-stars: Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachran.
