The death of Ilan Yian González, a 17-year-old footballer from Club Atlético Mitre, from Santiago del Estero, has shocked Argentina. The player was found dead in his uncle’s house.
The club shared a statement on social media reporting the incident. It also offered its condolences to the family and friends of the young striker, who was one of the most promising players in Argentine football.
González made his debut in the first division and alternated between the Reserve and the professional league. “It is with deep pain and sadness that we regret to report the death of footballer Ilan Yian González, a player who was currently part of our First Division and Reserve squad in the competition organized by the Santiago Football League. We send our condolences to his family and friends for this irreparable loss,” they said.
Cause of death
There is no official version yet. However, several Argentine media outlets reported that the player’s relatives claimed that it was a suicide. Apparently, González took his own life in one of the rooms of the house located in the Ejército Argentino neighborhood.
The footballer was reportedly given first aid to try to revive him, but to no avail. An ambulance arrived at the scene to remove the body.
González was considered by many to be one of the most promising young players in Argentine football. He had great goalscoring ability. His girlfriend also shared a farewell message on social media.
“Today, July 26, with the greatest pain in the world, I say goodbye to the man I loved the most, this beautiful black boy with whom I had plans for the future, a partner in madness, father of our beautiful BB,” she said.
“My beautiful angel, those beautiful memories we had will always be with me, that beautiful smile that drove me crazy. I love you forever. I will always have you marked in my soul, heart and body. I will never love anyone like I loved you and I love you,” she added.
