Winning the Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot is the dream of many people in the United States. Obtaining millions of dollars quickly can be the solution to paying off debts, buying the house of your dreams, traveling to exotic destinations and much more. But who are these lucky ones?

To understand if where you live influences your luck, we tell you about the US states that have not yet had winners of both lotteries.

So far, Wyoming, North Dakota and Mississippi have not recorded any Powerball or Mega Millions winners. According to Brian O’Dwyer, chairman of the Casino.org commission, nearly $30 million of the $83.6 million spent by New Yorkers on Powerball tickets in the past three months has gone to education aid.

He added that in addition to creating thousands of instant millionaires over the past six decades, the New York Lottery has raised billions of dollars for the state’s schools, including $3.7 billion last year.

Powerball is played 3 times a week: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Drawings take place at 10:59 p.m. (ET). You can purchase tickets up to about an hour before the drawing, although this can vary slightly by state.

Players must choose 5 numbers from 1 to 69 and an additional number, the Powerball, from 1 to 26. There is an option called Power Play that, for an additional cost, can multiply non-jackpot winnings by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times.

Mega Millions takes place twice a week: Tuesdays and Fridays. Drawings take place at 11 p.m. (ET). As with Powerball, tickets can usually be purchased up to about an hour before the drawing, although this can vary slightly by state.

You must choose 5 different numbers from 1 to 70, known as the “white numbers.” Then, pick a number from 1 to 25, known as the “Mega Ball.” You can also opt for a “Quick Pick,” where the machine randomly selects the numbers for you. Then, there is the optional Megaplier that you can add for an additional dollar to your ticket. This can multiply your non-jackpot winnings by 2, 3, 4, or 5 times, depending on the Megaplier number drawn.

Lottery games like Powerball and Mega Millions not only offer the chance to change lives with million-dollar prizes, but also contribute significantly to charitable and educational causes.
