Washington – The Vice President of the United States and only Democratic candidate for the White House, Kamala Harris, will hold the first rally with her vice presidential candidate next Tuesday, August 6, in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), the campaign confirmed to media outlets such as Politico and The Washington Post.

Harris revealed that she has not yet chosen her vice presidential running mate if she wins the November 5 election, but the name of the chosen one is expected to be known soon, even before their first campaign event together.

In fact, Harris’ own team had set a deadline of Wednesday, August 7, to select her number two, in a process that is developing in record time due to the extraordinary circumstances that have led the current vice president to become the most likely Democratic candidate for the presidency.

According to Politico, Harris will meet in the coming days with all the potential names being considered as her running mate, a decision considered one of the most important ones that any White House candidate has to make.

Harris will seek to balance the ballot with a vice presidential selection

Traditionally, the profile of the vice president seeks to appeal to voters who do not feel so close to the presidential candidate. In the case of Harris, a black woman from California, analysts expect her to choose a white man from another state in the country, especially from a region considered “swing” or who can provide a voter profile that creates a winning coalition.

The media is speculating on the names of Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Philadelphia will be the first stop on a four-day tour that will take the Democratic hopefuls to seven swing states. In addition to Pennsylvania, they will hold rallies in Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada.

According to Politico, the tour underscores the Democratic campaign’s belief that the electoral map and the states that could be in play have expanded in its favor since President Joe Biden withdrew from the race and announced he would not seek reelection.

The Democratic Party is expected to formalize Harris’ presidential nomination at a virtual delegate meeting ahead of the party’s national convention in mid-August.
