Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado appeared on one of the giant screens in Times Square, New York. The announcement, which lasted a few seconds, caused a lot of emotion among dozens of Venezuelan migrants who were there.
“Freedom, freedom, freedom!” they shouted while raising their country’s flags.
The image that appeared on the screen in Times Square shows a smiling María Corina Machado on the bridge over Lake Maracaibo, in the state of Zulia, one of the states in Venezuela most affected by the economic and social crisis.
This happened at a time when Venezuelan migrants were protesting against the election results presented by Elvis Amoroso, president of the National Electoral Council. According to the unsubstantiated figures of this Chavista activist, Nicolás Maduro won with more than 50% of the votes.
To date, however, the electoral authorities have not published the minutes or the total results of the process. Meanwhile, Edmundo González Urrutia and María Corina Machado publicly show the numbers of the minutes to which they were able to access.
So, according to the information handled by the democratic opposition, Edmundo González Urrutia is the real president-elect of Venezuela. This politician, an experienced ambassador of his country, would have obtained 7,119,768 votes (almost 70%), while his rival Nicolás Maduro obtained only 3,225,819 votes, for 30%. This data was taken from 24,384 tables transmitted out of 30,026.
