Don Omar was enjoying a successful moment in his career. However, the news of his kidney cancer diagnosis drastically changed his life. Despite being on stage and in front of thousands of fans, his health became his number one priority.

“I was feeling really sick, I had a high fever, a lot of body aches and I felt like something wasn’t right. I started having internal bleeding that was reflected in my urine. I was super scared for about two or three weeks. I started self-medicating. I had just done a lot of physical activity, I have a two-hour show on stage and it takes effort; you sweat a lot. I thought I was dehydrated, unfortunately not,” the singer began by telling ‘People en Español’.

His decision to hide his symptoms from both his doctor and his family reflects the fear and uncertainty that many people feel when faced with a potentially serious diagnosis. When he arrived at the hospital, a team of doctors was waiting to perform the necessary tests and determine the appropriate treatment.

“My tumor was two millimeters in size, I was at the point of stage one cancer, almost turning into stage two cancer. What would have happened is that in a year my tumor would have grown to the size of three millimeters and after three millimeters it is stage three cancer and there is no turning back, there is no cure,” she said.

During her exclusive conversation with the magazine, she added: “I had just celebrated life, celebrated triumph, celebrated success, celebrated music, and suddenly they told me: ‘Maybe you’re dying’ and I didn’t know. That was an extremely difficult day. The temperature was like 105 degrees, I had to do a show at 12 noon. That day my body felt a shutdown.”

The news of the diagnosis not only shocked Don Omar but also his followers and loved ones. In this moment of vulnerability, many hoped that his strength and perseverance on stage would translate into the same determination to face his fight.

Social media was filled with messages of support and love for the artist, demonstrating the impact he has on the lives of so many people. This experience could become a source of inspiration for many, reminding them of the importance of taking care of themselves and not ignoring the symptoms that the body presents.
