After selling more than 2.5 million copies in the United States alone, Britney Spears’ memoir, “The Woman In Me,” will be brought to the big screen by Universal Pictures, who will produce a film based on the life of the iconic singer.
The film will be directed by Jon M. Chu, and producer Marc Platt will once again team up with Chu after directing the two parts of “Wicked.”
The film, which does not yet have an official title, is expected to explore Spears’ journey from her beginnings as a young pop star to her status as one of the most influential artists of the 21st century, as well as addressing both her dazzling successes and the personal and professional challenges she has faced over the years.
Regarding the announcement, the 42-year-old singer took to social media to express her excitement to her followers about the upcoming film project.
“I’m excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with Marc Platt. He’s always made my favorite movies. Stay tuned,” Spears wrote on X.
As expected, the announcement has generated great expectations among Britney Spears fans, who are eager to see how this film adaptation will be carried out.
This project joins a series of recent biopics that have revived the lives of iconic entertainment figures, reaffirming the interest in telling their stories.
Britney Spears’ latest musical works
The “princess of pop” last recorded her work in 2016, when she published “Glory.” Then, the scandal with her father, Jamie Spears, began, so she decided to take a break, a situation she called a “strike,” so that her father would not benefit from her sales during her guardianship.
After a Los Angeles judge ended the 13-year conservatorship in 2021, the singer released collaborations with Elton John, with the song ‘Hold Me Closer’ (2022), and with Will.i.am, with ‘Mind Your Business’ (2023).
Britney Spears admits she won’t be returning to the music industry
Although earlier this year, some media outlets claimed that Britney Spears was working on her tenth studio album, the singer put an end to the speculation and admitted that she will not be returning to the music industry, news that saddened her fans.
“Just to be clear, most of the news is garbage. They keep saying that I’m using random people to make a new album. I’m never going back to the music industry!” Spears said on January 3 via her Instagram account.
She also said that in recent years she has dedicated herself to writing songs for other artists and that she was happy being a “ghostwriter.”
“For those who have read my book, there is a lot you don’t know about me… I have written over 20 songs for other people in the last two years, I am a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way!” she added.
