There is already a sanction from the disciplinary body of Conmebol after what happened in Uruguay-Colombia on July 10 of the Copa América.

A match that was marked by a pitched battle in the stands between Colombian fans and three Uruguayan players: Darwin Núñez, Ronald Araujo and José María Giménez.

The incidents also led to the expulsion of Uruguayan Guillermo Valera after allegedly hitting a member of the Colombian Football Federation.

As a result, the disciplinary body has decided to sanction and suspend the player for two games. It says verbatim: “SUSPEND the player GUILLERMO VARELA OLIVERA for 2 (two) games, including the automatic suspension match already imposed. This sanction must be fulfilled in accordance with the provisions of article 144 of the Regulations of the Conmebol Copa América USA 2024 and articles 70 and following of the Conmebol Disciplinary Code.”

The court has also fined the player $4,000. As the ruling makes clear, there is no recourse.

The resolutions regarding the two disciplinary proceedings opened by Conmebol against 11 Uruguayan players and coach Marcelo Bielsa are still pending.

The names of the footballers involved in the case that refers to the problems generated at the end of the semi-final match against Colombia are Darwin Núñez, Ronald Araujo, Mathías Olivera, Rodrigo Bentancur, Santiago Mele, Sebastián Cáceres, Brian Rodríguez, Facundo Pellistri, Matías Viña, Emiliano Martínez and José María Giménez.
