Actress Angelina Jolie accuses her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, of trying to silence her abuse allegations. The actress and director claims the actor tried to get her to sign an $8.5 million non-disclosure agreement to silence her abuse claims against him.
The actress’s attorneys have filed a motion to compel her ex-husband to disclose personal communications, which were described by the actor’s legal representatives as “wide-ranging and intrusive,” according to court documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court and obtained by People.
In the new documents, Jolie’s lawyers claimed she “was not acting with malice or intent to harm Pitt in response to any custody ruling” when she sold her share of the Château Miraval vineyard in 2021.
“It was Pitt who refused to buy her out unless he received her new, expanded confidentiality agreement, enforceable through an $8.5 million hold specifically designed to force her to remain silent about his abuse and cover-up.”
Jolie’s lawyers also argued that Pitt is relying on an “outdated domestic violence privacy argument to protect his abuse,” and that by suing his ex-wife, he has waived any privacy protections he may have had.
“Jolie has no desire to litigate these matters and for years never spoke publicly about them. Rather than appreciate her discretion, Pitt sought to bind her and enforce her contractually,” they said.
Jolie, who made the allegations in the context of her recent legal proceedings and disputes surrounding her divorce, maintains that she has faced a hostile and manipulated environment by Pitt. According to the statement, Pitt has resorted to pressure tactics to minimize the impact of her allegations and restrict her ability to make them public.
In 2022, Brad Pitt sued Angelina Jolie over the sale of her stake in Château Miraval, a French winery they co-owned, arguing that she had violated a prior agreement under which neither could sell without the other’s approval.
The dispute over Château Miraval adds to the ongoing legal battle for custody of their six children, although several are already adults: Maddox (22 years old), Pax (20), Zahara (19), Shiloh (18) and twins Knox and Vivienne (16).
The allegation has sparked a wave of reaction in the media and among fans of both actors, fuelling debate over the handling of abuse cases in the celebrity world. The situation has also highlighted tensions in the ongoing legal process between Jolie and Pitt, which has been the subject of media attention since their separation in 2016.
So far, Brad Pitt has not publicly responded to Angelina Jolie’s recent accusations.
