Luana Alonso is a Paraguayan swimmer and influencer. Her name is at the center of a controversy at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The reason? The Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP) has asked the athlete to leave the Olympic Village.
What happened?
Alonso is famous on social media with more than half a million followers. The swimmer went viral because after being eliminated and finishing sixth, she announced her retirement at just 20 years old. The objective of her decision was to pursue new paths and study Political Science in the United States.
This is where the problem begins, because after his elimination, he left the Olympic Village to visit tourist sites in Paris. He even visited Disneyland. After this, he decided to return to the venue. However, the COP had already notified him that his presence was not welcome there.
Why? After being eliminated from the competition, she is no longer part of the Paraguayan delegation of athletes. This was revealed in a statement signed by the head of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee Mission, Larissa Schaerer.
The announcement was not made public and was sent via an email that was leaked and sparked a new controversy at the Olympic Games.
“Please immediately withdraw from the Athletes’ Village of the aforementioned event (…) your presence is creating an inappropriate environment within Team Paraguay. We thank you for proceeding as instructed,” reads part of the letter.
There is no official statement from Alonso on the matter yet. The talented 20-year-old athlete was one of the 28 athletes (six women and 22 men) representing Paraguay in Paris 2024.
