The result of this Monday in artistic gymnastics at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games left the multiple American Olympic champion Simone Biles without a gold medal, as well as her teammate Jordan Chiles, but that was not a limitation for the emotional gesture they had towards the winner of the competition, the Brazilian Rebeca Andrade.
In an exciting duel, Andrade ended up taking the gold medal thanks to a magnificent performance that culminated with a score of 14.116 points, just a few tenths above Biles, who stayed at 14.133 after having gone over the dimensions during her performance.
After them, Jordan Chiles took bronze with 13,766 points.
The striking thing is that instead of feeling downcast for having finished second and third, Biles and Chiles decided to pay tribute to Andrade, who has had a rather eventful career and who, after 10 years in the sport, can finally win the gold medal at the Olympic Games.
Part of Andrade’s suffering is due to having torn the cruciate ligament in her knee up to three times, which left her up to three years (in cumulative time) without competing professionally since 2015 due to injuries.
That’s why, when she stepped onto the podium, Biles and Chiles gave Andrade a well-deserved bow for the sacrifice she had to make until she finally received her golden reward.
The gesture was widely recognized on social media and many were surprised and fascinated by the spirit of competitiveness but also solidarity that the three medalists had.
