Two tourists from Mexico were pushed onto the train tracks by another woman at a Manhattan subway station early Monday morning, the New York Police Department (NYPD) and sources close to the matter reported.
The victims, ranging in age from 20 to 27, were dumped off the northbound F platform at the Delancey Street/Essex Street station on the Lower East Side after 2:15 a.m., officials said.
A good Samaritan helped the tourists and managed to get them both safely off the tracks, according to officials. No train was approaching at the time of the crime.
Officers already assigned to patrol the Manhattan station immediately arrested the barefoot attacker and she was transferred to a patrol car in handcuffs, according to images collected by the New York Post.
There have been no details yet on the suspect and the charges against her are still pending, the NYPD said.
The reason why the suspect, who did not appear to know the Hispanic tourists, was targeting them was also not clarified.
One of the victims was seen being wheeled out of the station, while paramedics had to help the second woman up the stairs.
The women, who police said were on vacation in New York from Mexico, were taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
