The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed that the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment for September, which can be up to $943, will be sent on August 30.
This payment will help millions of people with disabilities, seniors, blind people and some children.
Requirements for SSI payments
To qualify for these payments, applicants must meet certain specific conditions:
–Be at least partially blind.
–Have a physical or mental condition that significantly limits daily activities for at least 12 months.
–Having a condition that is expected to result in death.
–Be at least 65 years old.
Below is a breakdown of maximum payments based on application status:
–Individual applicants: up to $943 per month.
–Eligible couples: up to $1,415 per month.
–Essential persons: up to $472 per month.
These amounts increased by 3.2% due to adjustments for inflation from last year.
The most recent COLA projection for 2025 could be around 2.63%, according to the Senior Citizens League on July 18, 2024.
The maximum amount received is influenced by how people apply for benefits. Different amounts are allocated to:
–Individual applicants: Individuals who apply for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits on their own, without regard to other individuals.
–Couples filing jointly: Married couples where both spouses are eligible for SSI benefits and file their application jointly.
–Essential Individuals: Individuals who are not direct beneficiaries of the program, but who live with an SSI beneficiary and provide essential care for them, and therefore may also receive certain benefits.
