Although the 2024 Major League Baseball season continues with the fight for the playoffs, the New York Yankees are already beginning to plan for what will be the coming 2025 and one of the new players they intend to add to the team is in Miami Marlins: the Venezuelan starter Jesús Luzardo.
According to reports from Bleacher Report this Tuesday through journalist Zachary Rymer, Luzardo, who has already been approached months ago by the Yankees, would return to the charge to join the Mules in 2025, this because his team Miami Marlins would allegedly be tempted to put him on the market.
“While Jesus Luzardo was still a trade item before the deadline (July 30), those possibilities basically went away on June 22 (when he was added to the disabled list). If (the Marlins) can trade him this winter, they will. How his injury progresses will depend on whether the Yankees and other organizations remain interested and offer good material to Miami,” the report said.
Despite being one of the most desirable pieces for many teams, due to being a young left-hander with a good arm, this 2024 he has not had them with him, leaving a record of 3-6 and a 5.00 earned run percentage before entering the injured list after June 16, the date of his last start.
For the Yankees, Luzardo would be a priority especially requested by manager Aaron Boone, after two great seasons with the Marlins.
It will be up to Brian Cashman and management to secure the services of Luzardo, who currently has a contract valid until the 2026 season when he will become a free agent.
