Fernando Carrillo uploaded a video in which he introduces himself as an “international star” and is determined to defend his legacy and his career as an artist. In his statement, he does not mince words when addressing his critics, those who have questioned his way of thinking about the situation in Venezuela, due to the fact that some celebrities have sent him messages.
“For exercising my right to choose, I am attacked by the strongest media empires, for whom I have earned millions of dollars throughout my career. They say they are democrats and we are dictators, false. Friends of Univision, why are you only against me? All against me, 20 years ago when I first supported President Chavez, you cancelled all my television contracts, you have taken me out of projects. If I do not kneel before your ideals, I am a communist. False!” he said on his Instagram profile.
Carrillo underlines the relevance of his career, recalling the success he has achieved over the years and the economic impact he has had on the industry. He also points out that his work has benefited many, even those who today dare to point it out, evidencing an inconsistency in his criticisms.
“How can you say such barbaric things about me? You mean, my vote is not even that of more than 5 million people? That is a Nazi attitude. Laura, there is no communism here, that is a lie, everyone is prospering here, we are the fastest growing economy in Latin America. Why don’t you talk about all the beggars in the United States and throughout Latin America? There is no genocide here, don’t be a liar, Laura, you fraud!” he responded to the Peruvian presenter.
At the end of his statement, he makes it clear that his passion and creativity will not be extinguished by dissenting voices and that he will continue his path with the same determination that has characterized him. Carrillo showed himself to be a defender not only of his own history, but also of the power of art to generate controversy, dialogue and progress in society.
The Venezuelan sent a message to the presenter of ‘El Gordo y La Flaca’ again: “You, my dear Lili, who accuse me of being a political activist, no. I am an activist of my country, of my homeland and of Venezuela. You call for me to stop following you, what is this attack of yours? Come to Venezuela to see the reality of our new tourism. Stop lying about a country.”
