French athlete Alice Finot ended up leaving one of the most emotional images so far at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after she dared to propose to her partner who was in the stands on Tuesday.
Although Finot was unable to secure one of the three podium spots in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase competition, she could have found the partner of a lifetime when she proposed to her boyfriend after kneeling down in front of him.
Her boyfriend, named Bruno Martínez Bargiela, who was completely surprised by the proposal, became emotionally upset by the surprise, but once he was able to regain his calm he ended up nodding and making the audience around him burst into applause and cheers.
As for Finot’s proposal, another point that caught attention was that he did it with an Olympic pin, instead of the common engagement ring, and after having broken the European record for the competition (8:58.81), stopping the clock at 8:58.67.
Regarding the proposal, Finot explained that he had already had it in mind and that he had set himself the goal of proposing to his boyfriend only if he finished in under nine minutes.
“I told myself that if I ran under nine minutes, knowing that nine is my lucky number and we’ve been together for nine years, then I would propose to him. I don’t like to do things the way everyone else does. Since he hadn’t done it yet, I told myself that maybe it was up to me to do it. So I gave my boyfriend a pin that I wore with me running… On it, it says: ‘Love is in Paris,’” Finot said.
This is not the first proposal seen at the Olympic Games because a few days ago the Chinese badminton player, Liu Yuchen, also proposed marriage to his partner after she won the gold medal in badminton doubles.
