The NFL is about to begin its preseason, so there are many teams that are preparing. One of them was the New York Giants and Detroit Lions, who decided to join together in a joint practice that ended in a pitched battle that brought each team a fine of $200,000 dollars from the NFL.

In a simulated game between the Giants and Lions on Monday, as part of training camp, it seemed that the good atmosphere reigned without any problem until a particular action in which New York rookie Malik Nabers and Kerby Joseph (Detroit) were involved.

Apparently Malik complained about Joseph’s intervention, considering it aggressive for the type of practices they were having, and this culminated in a strong fight in which both teams were involved.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was reportedly injured in the brawl. Jones said he was only trying to defend his teammates, but given his history of injuries, he should not have participated in the fight, according to fellow lineman Brian Burns.

This was enough for the NFL to speak out on the matter and ratify, through the sanction, what they had said in July when they sent a statement to the 32 teams warning that they would not tolerate fights or unprofessional behavior during joint practices.

By fining each team $200,000, the league is seeking to set a precedent and avoid problems between players before the official start of the season, especially considering that only two of the 30 NFL teams will not have joint practices: the champion Kansas City Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders.
