At the 2024 Paris Olympics, athletes from all over the world will compete for the prestigious gold medal. In addition to the prestige of winning it, the monetary value of this medal may surprise many.
According to a recent Instagram post by Wealth, the cost of a 2024 Olympic gold medal is approximately $950.
Each gold medal is made primarily of about 500 grams of silver, which is plated with only six grams of gold.
The medals were created by the famous French jeweler Chaumet and feature intricate details that showcase French culture and the spirit of the Olympic Games.
The Wealth post details: “The Paris 2024 Olympics gold medal has both historical and monetary value.”
“Each gold medal is composed primarily of about 500 grams of silver and plated with only six grams of gold,” he added.
“Designed by renowned French jeweller Chaumet, the medals also feature intricate details that symbolise French heritage and the Olympic spirit, but their actual value is not as high as one might think,” the publication concluded.
The gold medal weighs 529 grams, of which 95.4% is silver.
If the medal were made entirely of pure gold, its value would be approximately $41,161.50.
The last time pure gold medals were awarded was in 1912.
