The historic Mexican defender and former player of Chivas Rayadas de Guadalajara, Claudio Suárez, decided to show his anger at the situation that the club is currently going through and launched a strong message against technical director Fernando Gago after the poor performance shown by the Rebaño Sagrado during the group stage in the Leagues Cup 2024 after being eliminated against Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer (MLS).

The legend of the red and white team made these statements during an interview with ESPN, where he assured that Gago’s words about the participation not being a disappointment were totally false; he pointed out that the club did not have the competitive level necessary to be able to overcome its rivals and this shows a clear problem within the Aztec institution.

“Of course it was a failure, this Chivas team needs the results, it sounds bad but it is a failure not to advance, to struggle lately to be there winning titles, to play a final more than a year ago against Tigres de la UANL and it got out of hand,” said Suárez in his statements with a clear gesture of annoyance.

The former defender said that Chivas Rayadas de Guadalajara is one of the greatest teams in the history of Mexican soccer and for that reason they are always obliged to seek victory in all the games and in the tournaments that are possible; in light of this fact, he urged Gago and his coaching staff to work to improve the failures that have been occurring lately.

“They have a young team with one or two players standing out, but game after game they are required to go out and win, you have to go with the mentality of winning and if you don’t, it’s clear that it’s a failure whether you like it or not, so the coaching staff, players and management have to get used to living with that pressure,” added the figure.

“I don’t doubt that they are trying hard, that they are putting in all their effort, but I think that the Chivas team is lacking more quality, having more experienced players, they need more Mexican national team players and more weight,” concluded Claudio Suárez when speaking about the current situation of the club,

Currently, Chivas de Guadalajara is in seventh position in the 2024 Apertura tournament of the Liga MX with a total of seven points from two wins, one draw and one loss; after the team’s elimination in the Leagues Cup, they will now have to prepare in the best possible way to face the Aztec tournament and stay at the top of the standings to advance to the Liguilla and fight for the championship title.
