Portuguese striker and star of Al-Nassr in the Saudi Arabian league, Cristiano Ronaldo, joined the displays of support and affection following the retirement from professional football of his compatriot Kepler Laveran de Lima Ferreira, better known as Pepe, who hung up his boots this Thursday at the age of 41 after an impressive sporting career in which he established himself as one of the most important Portuguese players of the last 50 years.

Through a post on his social media account X (formerly Twitter), the forward and top scorer in football history highlighted to Pepe that he is one of the greatest friends that this sport has left him and also recalled all the years that they were part of Real Madrid to win a huge number of titles at that time.

“There are not enough words to express how much you mean to me, my friend. We won everything there was to win on the pitch, but the greatest achievement is the friendship and respect I have for you. You are one of a kind, my brother. Thank you for so much,” Cristiano Ronaldo said in his post.

The friendship between Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe began in 2002 when the defender joined Sporting de Portugal at a time when CR7 was playing as a youth player who wanted to achieve world success in football; after that they met again at Real Madrid, a team in which both figures lived their best moments and even won three Champions Leagues together.

As if that were not enough, this alliance between both figures extended to the Portuguese national team, with which they managed to win the country’s first European Championship in 2016 and also dominated the Nations League in 2019.

Throughout his professional career, the 41-year-old played for Real Madrid, Porto and Besiktas, winning more than 30 trophies and establishing himself as one of the most important figures in his country’s football.
