American sprinter Noah Lyles surprised everyone after winning Olympic gold in the 100-meter dash at Paris 2024. The irreverent sprinter had his second test on Thursday, although he did not do as well as expected.

Lyles ran the 200 metres, an event that he himself has said he feels even more comfortable in than the 100 metres and that is his favourite. However, the American finished in third place, taking the bronze.

This is because Lyles ran the 200-meter dash with Covid-19. After finishing the race, the 27-year-old athlete began to feel ill and once he was taken to the emergency room it was determined that he was infected with the virus.

Given this physical condition that Lyles is facing, the athlete has decided to withdraw from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games even though he still had to compete in the 4×100 relay event with the American team.

Lyles announced his decision on social media, where he has just over 1.4 million followers. He is one of the most followed athletes in the United States.

“First I want to thank God for getting me through these Olympic Games. Second, I want to congratulate Lestlie Tebogo, Kenny Bednarek and everyone else for an incredible 200m Olympic final,” the American runner began his statement.

“Finally, I want to thank everyone for the messages of support. This will be the end of my 2024 Olympics. They are not the Olympics I dreamed of, but they have left me with a lot of joy in my heart. I hope everyone enjoyed the show. Whether you were rooting for me or against me, you have to admit that you watched it, don’t you? See you next time,” Lyles concluded.

In this way, Noah Lyles says goodbye to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with a gold medal in the 100-meter dash and a bronze in the 200-meter dash. Meanwhile, he lost the possibility of a team medal due to his withdrawal after testing positive for Covid-19.
