On September 14, Mexican Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez will return to the ring to face Edgar Berlanga at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. In a somewhat controversial fight after the Mexican avoided his mandatory rivals to defend his belts.

However, it seems that this fight is more in Canelo’s personal interest, as he will receive a large guaranteed purse in addition to other income agreed for this fight.

Just by getting into the ring with Berlanga, the Mexican boxer is guaranteed a purse of $35 million dollars. The same amount he received in his previous fight against Jaime Munguía.

But Canelo’s deal for this fight is not limited to the $35 million guaranteed as a purse. The Mexican will also receive part of the PPV and ticket sales for the event.

In the case of the PPV, Canelo will keep 35% of all the pay-per-view sold. With just over a month to go until the fight, it is estimated that there will be around 550,000 tickets sold to watch the fight exclusively. This translates into just over $50 million dollars, which would generate another $17.5 million dollars for Alvarez.

In the case of ticket sales, the experienced Mexican boxer will keep 80% of the tickets sold on the night of September 14 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. For this concept, Canelo will receive about $13.6 million dollars.

In total, adding the three money buy-ins that Canelo will have for this fight, he will pocket just over $65 million dollars for getting into the ring with Edgar Berlanga.

It should be remembered that in February of this year Canelo and PBC broke off relations by mutual agreement. There are two fights left to be fulfilled from that contract signed in June 2023 and which promised three guaranteed fights for the Mexican boxer.
