US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris shows an advantage over former President Donald Trump in the crucial states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, according to a poll published this Saturday by The New York Times.
The poll, conducted between August 5 and 9, reveals a four-point lead for Harris in these swing states, where the competition is tight and victory is not assured for any party, reports the Efe news agency.
This is one of the first indications of voting intention since Harris took office, following President Joe Biden’s decision not to seek re-election.
Along with her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democrat began a tour of key states, including the three where she leads Trump according to the poll.
Harris will also visit Arizona on Saturday, another battleground state that Joe Biden narrowly won in 2020. This will be Harris’ fourth trip to Arizona this year and the first since Biden ended his reelection campaign and officially endorsed her.
The Democratic candidate, the first African-American woman to seek the US presidency, has managed to build her campaign in a short period since Biden’s resignation in mid-July.
Kamala Harris’ campaign has raised record amounts, reaching $20 million in the last 24 hours, which has renewed the party’s momentum in the face of a highly competitive electoral contest scheduled for November 5.
