A Bronx felon has been charged with first-degree rape after he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman near Bergen Avenue and East 149th Street in early August.
The preliminary report from the New York Police Department (NYPD) says the victim was walking around 1:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, when the man, now identified as 38-year-old Papa Diop, approached her and asked for directions.
The suspect then proceeded to “forcibly rape” her. The suspect fled the scene eastbound on East 149 Street toward Brook Avenue, according to the NYPD.
The 35-year-old victim was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in stable condition, News 12 The Bronx reported.
Sources say a police officer recognized him from flyers circulating in the district and arrested him on the 4 train on Saturday morning.
In this regard, the Special Victims Squad of the Bronx of the New York Police Department is investigating, the authorities expressed.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the New York Police Department’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
