LeBron James shined at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, winning his third Olympic gold medal. With this victory, the Lakers player surpassed a statistic held by the legendary Michael Jordan, who is considered by many to be the best player in NBA history.
Following the victory in the final against France, LeBron expressed his pride in the performance of a team that, although formed quickly but with stars of the calibre of Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, demonstrated sufficient quality to secure the fifth consecutive Olympic title for the United States and the seventeenth in the history of the Games.
“I am very happy, it is a special moment for me. I live it with humility, knowing that I can still play basketball at a high level, surrounded by great players and an excellent coaching staff. It is an honour to be able to go out on the court and represent our country,” said LeBron before a crowd of journalists at the Bercy Palace in statements collected by EFE.
At 39, LeBron particularly appreciated the victory against France, especially because it was on home soil. “We couldn’t have imagined a better setting for the Olympic final. It was special to face the host team in such an extraordinary atmosphere,” he explained.
Comparing the current U.S. team to those from previous Olympics, LeBron said, “The best team we have right now is the best team we have. We’re back to our best, but we know we had some years where we weren’t up to our potential.”
“Winning the Olympic title is an incredible thing, a great honor. If I have been able to contribute to the United States winning the gold medal, that is wonderful,” she said.
On surpassing Michael Jordan in Olympic titles, with LeBron having 4 to Jordan’s 2, LeBron had words of praise for “Air Jordan.” “Just by looking at his silhouette and his ability, you know he’s one of the best basketball players we’ve ever seen. He was a player of pure talent, from another world,” he summed up.
As for the possibility of playing in the next Olympic Games in Los Angeles, LeBron dismissed that idea. “No, I don’t see myself playing in Los Angeles, but I don’t see myself playing in Paris either. In four years, I don’t think I can see myself playing.”
LeBron also highlighted the fundamental role of his family, especially his wife. “My wife is the best. Without her, I wouldn’t be in this position, loving the game the way I do. Having my wife, my two sons, my daughter and the rest of my family here has been a real pleasure,” he concluded.
