It has been an intense month, but this Sunday the flame of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games goes out. In El Diario we tell you the schedules, where to watch and some interesting facts about this closing ceremony.
Several events took place on Sunday. The last one before the closing ceremony, however, is the women’s basketball final at the Bercy Arena. As in the men’s final yesterday, France will face the United States. The match starts at 9:30 ET.
This event also has flag bearers, as does the opening ceremony. In the case of the United States, they will be Katie Ledecky and Nick Mead.
Ledecky won four swimming medals in Paris. She has 14 Olympic medals in her career. Mead, meanwhile, helped the United States end a 64-year drought by winning gold in the men’s four-oared event.
The ceremony is scheduled to include a parade of athletes. The ceremony will include the symbolic act of handing over the Olympic flag to the organizers of the 2028 Los Angeles Games. There will also be a medal ceremony for the winners of the women’s marathon, which will be run earlier that Sunday.
As with the Opening Ceremony, artistic director Thomas Jolly will lead the closing ceremony. In a statement, the organization gave hints about what this event would be like. It will have “more than a hundred artists, acrobats, dancers and circus artists.” It will also feature “the participation of world-renowned singers.” For example, Billie Eilish with the band Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
“Part of the show will take place in the air, while giant sets, costumes and spectacular lighting effects will take viewers on a journey through time, both past and future,” they explained.
In this sense, artistic director Jolly announced that it will be a very visual and lively show “with an operatic dimension to provide a great visual fresco and say goodbye to athletes from all over the world.”
