Former US President Donald Trump, the current Republican candidate, defended on Monday his relationship with international leaders such as Vladimir Putin of Russia, Kim Jong-un of North Korea and Xi Jinping of China.
In a live conversation with Elon Musk on the X platform, he said that having a good relationship with these leaders “is good.”
“Getting along with them is a good thing, not a bad thing,” Trump said.
The former president stressed that he knew these leaders personally and commented:
“People will say, ‘Oh, this is terrible.’ I’m not saying anything good or bad. They’re on top of their game, they’re tough, they’re smart, and they’re going to protect their country. They probably love their country. It’s just a different kind of love, but they’re going to protect it.”
The Republican candidate also criticized the current Democratic administration and suggested that foreign leaders were surprised by the change in US policy since January 2021, Efe reported.
“Our country is in a very bad state right now. It’s such a different place. We were respected. Four years ago we were respected to the point that when I said ‘don’t buy oil’ they didn’t do it,” he said.
He added that under his leadership there would be “zero chance” that Israel would have been attacked.
