A Hispanic migrant went viral on social media for a video in which he shows the amount of money he earns for working as a bricklayer for 45 hours a week.
“He who climbs a good tree finds a good shade,” the post reads.
How much does a bricklayer earn in the United States?
In the video, which was posted on TikTok by one of his coworkers and had more than 1 million views, the young man appears sitting while taking a check out of his wallet.
The young man, originally from Guatemala, excitedly shows how much money he earns a week: it can be seen that he was paid a total of $1,340 dollars. “It’s there, saved up, ready to be exchanged,” he says.
The reach of the publication was such that her story even appeared on the news.
In another video, the amount paid to other construction workers is also mentioned: salaries range from $1,100 to $2,000 dollars.
In the United States, many migrants work as bricklayers due to the high demand for labor in construction and the difficulties they face in other fields.
These jobs often require fewer formal skills and offer a salary that, while not always high, is often better than in their countries of origin. In addition, working in construction can serve as a starting point to move towards better job opportunities and a more stable life.
