With less than a month to go before the start of the regular season, the Cleveland Browns received terrible news: Michael Hall Jr., their second-round rookie, had reportedly been involved in an episode of domestic violence and would therefore be arrested by police forces.
“We are aware of the incident involving Mike Hall Jr. Mike and his representatives have been in contact with the appropriate authorities. We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be making any further comment at this time,” the team wrote in a statement.
Michael Hall joined the Browns as a second-round pick in this year’s draft from Ohio State, where he recorded 24 tackles and 1.5 quarterback sacks in the 2023 college football season.
According to a police report from Avon, Ohio, released by ESPN, the woman, who said she was the player’s fiancée, said Hall yelled at her to get out of the house, grabbed her by the feet and dragged her on his back down the driveway of the residence.
Then he put a gun against his head while yelling at him.
“I’m going to end it all. I don’t care,” said the woman who has an 11-month-old son with the defensive tackle.
The player left the residence before police arrived; he was arrested and booked earlier Tuesday and released hours later after posting $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to have a hearing on his case on Sept. 10.
The Cleveland, Ohio-born defensive back made his Browns debut last Saturday in Week 1 of the NFL preseason, in the game his franchise lost 23-10 to the Green Bay Packers.
Hall, who is 1.90 meters tall and weighs 136 kilograms, was present in 29 plays of that game, which represents 45 percent of the team’s defensive actions.
Thanks to his outstanding performance during the offseason, the player had taken advantage of the injuries on Cleveland’s defensive line to make himself noticed and aspire to be a starter in the 2024 NFL season that will start next September.
