Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, launched harsh criticism against the UN panel of experts, which considered that there were several irregularities in the presidential elections that cast doubt on the victory of Nicolás Maduro. As stated by the National Electoral Council.

During Tuesday’s session, the Chavista official said: “I propose that we reform Venezuela’s electoral laws so that no foreigner ever again comes to take possession of anything that has to do with Venezuela’s elections.”

In his speech he also said: “Why do they have to come? On account of what? What kind of capacity do they have? There are those from the UN panel of experts saying, they signed, they have no word, they are garbage without a word, that panel of experts is a panel of experts without words because they signed saying that the report is private and that only the Electoral Power of Venezuela and the Secretary General of the United Nations would know it, but today they announce that they will make it public.”

Rodríguez said that this type of events “tires” them, but that they have to get used to it because it will continue to happen as long as they are “rebels.” “They will continue to bother us and we will continue to defeat them.”

What did the UN panel of experts say?

Four experts from the international organization arrived in July to document the electoral process in Venezuela and, as they announced, they have found several incidents that they decided to make public.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres spoke about the investigation: “The panel continues to monitor the technical aspects of the remaining phases of the electoral process (in Venezuela), according to its terms of reference, and will provide a final report to the Secretary-General.”

This report is significant, as it would be further evidence against the results given by the CNE, in which, without records, they declared Nicolás Maduro the winner.

However, on the opposition side, the scenario is completely different because it claims that Edmundo González Urrutia won by a landslide.

The results have been endorsed by several governments around the world, which recognise the opposition diplomat as the new president-elect of Venezuela.
