A man and a woman were found dead inside a house in Staten Island (NYC).

NYPD officers responding to a 911 call found the bodies inside the home on Amador St. near Amity Place in Graniteville, yesterday around 12:24 p.m. Neither of the victims had identification, he said. Daily News.

According to police, the woman was stabbed multiple times, while the man’s body showed no obvious signs of trauma. The city’s Medical Examiner’s Office (OCME) is conducting autopsies to determine the cause of death and identify the deceased. It is not clear who made the 911 call.

Domestic violence is a constant in New York City and surrounding areas, between relatives, roommates and partners, even involving minor victims. Every day in NYC, an average of 747 incidents of domestic violence are reported – including assault, abuse, verbal abuse – and about 65 homicides annually.

In late July, a 54-year-old woman and her nephew were found stabbed to death and showing signs of decomposition in the apartment they shared in Brooklyn (NYC). The case was declared a double homicide, but no one has been arrested.

Also last month, four people – including two young children – were found stabbed to death in a Brooklyn apartment and a relative was arrested for the crime.

Stabbings and slashings are common in New York City overall. There were 4,493 cases in 2023 through early December, a 6% increase over the same period in 2022. In parallel, arrests for knife crimes increased by almost 30%.

A previous NYPD report warned in August 2023 that fatal stabbings had risen 29% that year in the city compared to before the pandemic (2019). Knife attacks have become more frequent in various settings: streets, buildings, homes, buses, subways, parties, schools, and even commercial establishments and ATM areas.
