Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado reiterated that Nicolas Maduro wants to turn his fellow countrymen into “enemies of each other” through “informers,” referring to the channels for reporting people who protest against the results offered by the pro-government National Electoral Center (CNE) in the July 28 presidential elections.
“They want to create barriers (referring to the Government) in our communities with these accusations that seek to artificially turn us into enemies of each other (…). They want to create snitches, informers, who betray their neighbors, the brother with whom they have lived their whole lives (…), but they will not succeed,” said the opposition leader through a video on X.
The engineer acknowledged the role of the citizen organization in the presidential elections, in which table witnesses collected “83.5%” of the minutes that, according to the opposition, clearly show the victory of Edmundo González Urrutia, something that Chavismo does not recognize, considering that they are false documents.
“I invite you to continue overcoming all the obstacles that the regime puts in our way with its terror, so that we remain organized and, now overcoming fear, we can gather again around our comanditos (the political organization groups of the campaign of the largest opposition coalition) and the thousands of citizen organizations,” said Machado.
On Monday, the pro-government Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, revealed that 25 murders had taken place during the post-election protests, and stated that “all” of them “can be attributed to criminal groups used by the so-called ‘comanditos’,” accusing them of provoking “violence” and causing damage to public property.
The regime claimed to have received accurate citizen reports on 22 of the 25 deaths recorded by the pro-government prosecutor’s office, through an application created by Chavismo.
Cruelty of the Maduro regime
Machado also warned about “how cruel this regime can be,” and asked citizens to continue communicating and “maintain civic protest.”
“Let’s continue organizing as we have been doing, now with more care, intelligence and determination. This is the way to stop them from robbing us,” the opposition leader concluded.
On the other hand, a panel of experts from the United Nations (UN) that participated in the Venezuelan presidential elections concluded in a statement that “the process of managing results by the CNE did not comply with the basic measures of transparency and integrity that are essential for the holding of credible elections,” something that has been made known by other observers and foreign governments.
Until then, other delegations, such as the Council of Electoral Experts of Latin America (Ceela) or African organizations, among others, also invited by the CNE, have not made any public statements.
