Oscar De La Hoya has once again added fuel to the fire by harshly attacking UFC President Dana White in a recent interview in which he reminded him of that episode in Mexico when he was recorded in a VIP room at a nightclub slapping his wife.
During his participation in this podcast, the former boxer brought up again that controversial episode in which White was involved years ago when he attacked his wife in Mexico.
“When a guy slaps his wife in public and his own mother writes a book about him saying he’s an asshole… I don’t have to say anything else,” the Mexican-American said.
Why the confrontation between De la Hoya and White? This was the question that the host asked the ‘Golden Boy’. The now promoter detailed that the businessman practically sabotaged his foray into Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
White was apparently threatened by the former boxer’s aspirations. This, according to De la Hoya himself. “When I first thought about getting into MMA, I felt strongly that he just wanted to bury me,” he explained about the genesis of the conflict between the two.
The differences with Dana White have been around for years. However, everything resurfaced again this year 2024 after the announcement of a fight between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou. This fight fused boxing and Mixed Martial Arts.
De la Hoya has been very critical of White’s management and showed his total disagreement with the American’s opinion regarding the incursion of MMA fighters into boxing. According to the UFC president, athletes who switched to this discipline would not have an economic future.
For this reason, the ‘Golden Boy’ hinted that under White’s management, several fighters have decided to switch to boxing. “I’m happy for them. Come to our side of the street and make real money!”
