In response to recent allegations surrounding the “Lifetimes” music video, Katy Perry’s team has issued a statement to respond to the allegations. The controversy arose after the government of the Balearic Islands, Spain, where the material was filmed, began an investigation into the American for filming in a protected area.

The Balearic Islands’ Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment said the production company behind the video had not applied for the necessary permits to film in the region.

However, the statement, published by Universal Music, Katy Perry’s record label, said that the local production company for the “Lifetimes” video had the necessary permits to shoot in some tourist sites in Spain, including the islands that were recently accused of being protected areas, assuring that all necessary measures were taken to respect and preserve the spaces where it was filmed.

Perry’s team stresses that they worked closely with local authorities and obtained all necessary permits for filming.

The record label said they later learned that the permits were still being processed on the day they had available for filming, however, a day before they received “verbal authorization to move forward” with the video.

“We comply with all regulations related to filming in this area and we have enormous respect for this location and the authorities in charge of its protection,” said the statement signed by the label’s spokesperson.

The video was directed by Colombian-American photographer and director Matías Vásquez “Stillz,” showing the “Last Friday Night” singer sailing, dancing and going to nightclubs in the Spanish Mediterranean islands as part of her summer vacation.

The project sparked controversy due to speculation that the celebrity may have caused environmental damage on islands considered protected areas, which is currently under investigation by the Spanish authorities.

The song “Lifetimes” is taken from Katy Perry’s new album, titled “143,” which will be released on September 20.
