Uruguayan footballer and star player for the Águilas del Club América, Sebastián Cáceres, has been linked on several occasions with various European teams and there has even been a rumor of an alleged request from Marcelo Bielsa, coach of the Uruguay national team, for him to make the jump to the old continent with the aim of improving his competitive abilities and better supporting the Charrúas.

Faced with this situation, Cáceres himself decided to put an end to the rumours and during an interview with TUDN he revealed that this is a lie and that Bielsa has never asked him to leave the Eagles; on the contrary, he assured that every day he urges them to be part of a team in which they feel comfortable and can play as well as possible to stay active.

“He wants his players to be in the best possible teams in the elite, competing against the best, and he didn’t tell me at that time, six months ago, it was a lie that he told me or had told me that, but I don’t need him to tell me to know that he does want it,” he said.

“He wants me to be in a European team competing against the best players and the best teams. Any coach of a national team wants his players to be in the best teams, and I also believe that every player who is projected wants to be competing at that level,” he added in his statements.

Cáceres emphasized that his only goal is to be able to continue defending the blue-cream jersey and support them in the fight for the 2024 Leagues Cup title as one of the two representatives of Liga MX still left in the competition and also to fight for the third championship of the Aztec tournament to become the first club in history to achieve this feat.

“We are already used to it, we like it because it makes us feel like we are always the protagonists. The fact that America is always being talked about, that it is always being considered the favorite can be seen as pressure, but we like it and we take responsibility for it. There is a reason why we are put in that position, because we set the bar there,” he explained.

“We are more than capable of doing it because we have already done it. It is not that much has changed and the players who have come are of great quality. We are highly capable of meeting, more than people’s expectations, the objectives that we set ourselves, which obviously coincide,” he concluded.
