Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez’s next fight will be in Las Vegas against Edgar Berlanga. After that fight scheduled for September 14, the Mexican champion has no date or opponent confirmed at the moment.
However, talks with Arab Sheikh Turki Al-Alshikh appear to be on track for Canelo to fight a high-calibre opponent again in 2025. Although the Mexican has become demanding in terms of the amount he wants to pocket for the fight.
Initially, a fight between Álvarez and David Benavídez was being arranged. The Mexican boxer was asking for $200 million dollars to make it possible, but according to the Arab sheikh himself, Canelo has not responded to him in order to start negotiations.
But recently Canelo gave Turki Al-Alshikh another option and set a price to step into the ring against Terence Crawford. Another high-caliber rival that the Saudi sheikh would be interested in bringing to Arabia for an elite fight.
The amount that Canelo would ask for to face Crawford is less than that of Benavídez. However, it is still a million-dollar purse. “Against Crawford, I could accept a little less, $150 million dollars. I like the way he fights, he is a great fighter. If he is willing to pay what I ask, I am willing,” said Álvarez in an interview. FightHype.
“Don’t get me wrong, Crawford is a great fighter, but for me, in my weight class, it’s an easy fight for me. It’s easy money,” concluded the former absolute super middleweight champion.
Saudi Arabia has been trying to gain ground for several years by hosting high-level sporting events with big names. That is why the Saudi sheikh intends to bring Canelo Álvares, one of the greatest exponents of boxing today, to fight on Arab soil.
