Argentine striker and star player for Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Inter Miami, Lionel Messi, was the victim of vandalism a few weeks ago at his mansion in Ibiza by the activist group Futuro Vegetal, who painted the attacker’s facade with their colors to denounce all those world stars who allegedly drive climate change with the emissions they generate.
In response to this incident, the Argentinean man filed a lawsuit against the organization and is requesting $50,000 to cover the structural damage to the home after accusing them of damaging private property.
The information was released by the spokesperson for the environmental group, Bilbo Bassaterra, who explained that one of the employees of the Qatar 2022 World Cup champion and two-time Copa América champion filed the complaint with the Civil Guard on the Spanish island where they usually enjoy their holidays.
In the same message, the representative of Futuro Vegetal considered that the amount requested by the Messi family “is very high, obviously,” and that there was “an initial estimate above the cost” for the judicial procedure.
“This is tempera paint that comes off with water. A priori, it comes off with a hose, at most you’ll have to scrub a little. But even in the worst case, even if you had to repaint the façade, it wouldn’t cost you 50,000 euros,” he said in his statements.
It is important to remember that both the spokesperson and two members of this activist group were arrested by the Spanish Civil Guard just two days after committing this act of vandalism at the football player’s home with the aim of denouncing that the rich generate major problems for the environment and drive the acceleration of climate change.
