On Saturday, thousands of Venezuelans demonstrated in major US cities, including Washington, Miami and New York, to denounce electoral fraud in their country’s recent presidential elections.

The attendees demanded the recognition of Edmundo González Urrutia as the president-elect, instead of the current ruler Nicolás Maduro, who has so far been unable to prove his “victory.”

In Miami, Al Bayfront Park became a meeting point for many Venezuelans who carried flags and banners with messages such as “Faith and struggle” and “Free Venezuela.”

The rally showed strong support for opposition leader Maria Corina Machado and Gonzalez Urrutia, Efe news agency reported. The day reached its most emotional moment when the crowd, which filled the amphitheater and its surroundings, sang the national anthem with great fervour, many with tears in their eyes.

Jennifer Bello, who was present at the event, expressed her commitment to Machado and her rejection of the Maduro regime. She emphasized her support for the opposition and her confidence that the electoral fraud will be recognized.

There are approximately 750,000 Venezuelans living in the United States, with a significant majority in South Florida.

María Teresa Morín, director of the Comando Con Vzla in the United States, stressed the commitment of the Venezuelan community to María Corina Machado and the importance of continuing the peaceful struggle for the recognition of González Urrutia as president-elect.

Senator Rick Scott, Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart and Mayor Daniella Levine Cava also participated in the demonstration in Miami, calling on the U.S. government and the international community to take action against Maduro.

Scott announced that the Senate will prepare a resolution to recognize Edmundo González Urrutia as president-elect of Venezuela.

Following the July 28 election, Venezuela’s National Electoral Council declared Nicolás Maduro the winner with 51.95% of the vote, but has not published the disaggregated voting records.

The opposition and several governments, including the United States, Canada and Argentina, question these results and support the version that Edmundo González Urrutia is the real winner.
