The Italian Antonio Conte, the new coach of Napoli, apologised to “the Neapolitan people” after the painful defeat against Hellas Verona in the first match of Serie A, in what was his debut in charge of the Neapolitan team.

“We must humbly ask forgiveness from the people of Naples. We were Napoli in the first half, but the second half is difficult to explain. Of course, I take full responsibility, I am the coach,” Conte told DAZN after the match.

Napoli’s poor run of form from last season seems to have not changed in this new campaign. Not even the arrival of Conte, who is the team’s fourth coach in a year, has managed to turn things around.

With Nigerian Victor Osimhen absent, who is looking to leave the club, and Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia injured in the first half, Napoli were unable to maintain their level in the second half of the match.

Verona took advantage of this situation and scored 3 goals in those 45 minutes, two of them scored by Colombian Daniel Mosquera, who made his debut in Italy.

“We have a lot of work ahead of us, we have to be honest,” he concluded.
