A mother of three was shot while filming a video in the kitchen of her home in New Albany. Police said the suspect was her ex-boyfriend, who has since been arrested and booked into the Floyd County Jail.

The New Albany Police Department was alerted to an emergency call about a shooting. When officers arrived at the home, they found 25-year-old Kaitlynn Lee suffering from gunshot wounds, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“What are you doing here?” the victim said.

Authorities told WAVE News that Kaitlynn was in the apartment with a friend, they were filming a video for the TikTok app, when they heard banging on the window and that’s when she was shot.

Detectives reviewed the TikTok video in which Lee and her friend are in the apartment’s kitchen, laughing, dancing and singing, when she suddenly turns away from the camera to look out the window and ask, “What are you doing here?” WAVE reported.

Kaitlynn’s ex-boyfriend was at the window with a firearm, which he fired, hitting her partner. The man was identified by authorities as Joshua Thompson, 25.

He confessed to his brother that he shot

After shooting, Thompson fled the scene and called his brother in tears, who told police that while on the phone, he admitted to “shooting his ex-girlfriend in the head and killing her,” according to official documents shared by the same news outlet.

After speaking with his brother, Thompson called 911 and reportedly told police he had shot his child’s mother and was turning himself in. Police arrested him and charged him with murder.

While being questioned, the suspect said he went to the apartment to spy on Lee and make sure she was not with another man.

The victim had a protection order

Thompson has a no-contact order and domestic violence protection, said Kaitlynn’s aunt, Pamela Greenwell. “In April of this year, she called me and he had hit her really badly.”

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for Kaitlynn Lee’s funeral services and to financially support her three young children.

“She did not deserve what happened to her. Those babies do not deserve to go through this. I will never be able to understand how or why someone could do something so inhumane,” wrote Jannette Roberts, who said she is the victim’s cousin.

“Their children will grow up without a mother”

The page managed to raise over $11,000. “Due to someone’s selfish actions, her three beautiful babies now have to grow up without a mother,” Roberts continued.

Joshua Thompson is being held without bail until his trial, which has been set for March 24, WLKY added.
