Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton delivered an inspiring speech to Vice President Kamala Harris during the Democratic Convention in Chicago.

Clinton urged Harris to break through the “glass ceiling,” a metaphor for the barriers women face in politics and elsewhere.

“When a barrier falls for one of us, it falls for all of us,” said Clinton, who in 2016 made history by becoming the first woman to receive the presidential nomination from one of the two main parties in the United States, according to the Efe news agency.

Dressed in a white suit, similar to the one she wore in her first presidential debate against Donald Trump, she paid tribute to the suffragette movement and presented Harris as the “freedom” candidate.

Clinton highlighted the progress made: “We have put a lot of cracks in the highest ceiling, and today we are very close to finally breaking it.”

The former Secretary of State outlined her vision of freedom and dignity for all women, noting that progress toward a female presidency is a dream on the horizon.

“Something is happening in America. It feels like a breakthrough that we have worked for and dreamed about for a long time,” Clinton said.

The former Secretary of State, who alluded to her own role as a pioneer in gender politics, stressed that the culmination of this dream would be to see Kamala Harris assume the presidential office in an eventual victory in November.

In her speech, she reviewed the history of the feminist movement in the United States and placed the Democratic candidate as a key figure in the continuation of the fight for women’s rights.

Hillary Clinton, one of the featured speakers on the first night of the convention, reinforced the party’s support for Harris as the standard-bearer to face Trump in the general election.

Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance

In a surprise appearance at the Democratic convention in Chicago, Kamala Harris addressed attendees with an emotional call to action.

The leader made her entrance to the rhythm of Freedom Beyoncé’s unofficial campaign anthem, exclaiming, “When we fight, we win.”

This slogan has become one of the main messages of his electoral campaign.

Kamala Harris used her remarks to express her gratitude to Joe Biden for his leadership and service.

“We will be forever grateful to you for a lifetime of service to our nation and all that you continue to do,” Harris said.

In a previous statement, Joe Biden expressed his willingness to pass the baton to Harris and described this moment as “memorable” in his political career, which is in its final stages at the age of 81.

The president also dismissed Donald Trump’s claims of an internal “coup” and described the former president as a politician with “questionable stability.”
