There was controversy at UFC 305 over the weekend. Fighter Casey O’ Neill took the win over Luana Santos by unanimous decision. However, the victory would take a backseat when she decided to celebrate by imitating the Australian breaking athlete who went viral at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
After finishing the fight and certifying a favorable result, O’Neill celebrated by imitating a dance by her compatriot Rachel Raygun, a dancer who had a controversial participation in the ecumenical contest.
The sequence is priceless, as she seemed to be overcome by several emotions at the same time. When she was announced as the winner of the fight, she burst out in joy and burst into tears. She then threw herself onto the canvas and began to imitate her compatriot’s dances. She even simulated a kangaroo jump.
After this, O’ Neill was questioned about it and spoke about the celebration. “I did better than her, I would give myself a 10, I think if they bring (breaking) back for 2028, maybe I need to take a break from MMA and go for a gold medal,” she said.
The UFC star’s repercussions are in addition to the ones in Australia. Following the athlete’s sloppy performance at Paris 2024, there was a lot of mockery on social media. To the point that a petition was created on Change.org for the dancer to offer an apology.
The situation has escalated to such an extent that the Australian Olympic Committee has expressed its regret for what happened at the Olympic Games.
