Following the physical assaults of Peruvian footballer Christian Cueva on his wife, the controversy has escalated. A court specializing in family matters at the Superior Court of Justice in Lima has prohibited the player from approaching Pamela López.
The court granted the woman protective measures due to the complaint of physical and psychological violence she filed against the Peruvian figure. The decision includes a panic button on the victim’s cell phone. What does this mean?
If López feels in danger due to any action or approach by Cueva, he can press this button on his mobile phone to alert the victim in real time.
The verdict was made known thanks to a public statement in X of the Superior Court of Justice. Likewise, they also determined that the entire family unit must receive psychological attention. That is, Cueva, López and their three minor children.
The court ruled that it was necessary for the complainant’s home to be under constant police patrol.
Alleged infidelity was the straw that broke the camel’s back
Pamela López was Christian Cueva’s partner for 12 years. In 2023, the player released a statement where he spoke about their separation. However, this Monday the woman announced that she filed a formal complaint for physical and psychological violence. She even went so far as to say that she fears for her life.
Together with her lawyer, she explained the situation. Through the program ‘América Hoy’, López showed images in which the injuries from the attacks can be corroborated. Different videos even went viral in which she attacks the player and he responds with more violence.
The altercation ended up being generated by her complaints about the footballer’s alleged infidelity.
“Several episodes have occurred in front of my children. I have been a victim of domestic violence for many years. This year I have been the victim of two very strong events in my life, one of them was when I discovered the infidelity; and the other was the day before my birthday,” she said.
López’s complaint was made public at the same time that Cueva was presented as a new Cienciano player and was traveling to Lima to play a match in the Clausura Tournament of the Peruvian Liga 1.
After the scandal broke out, the team decided to fire Cueva, who had been waiting for a job opportunity in football for 10 months.
