A 66-year-old woman was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside her home in Brooklyn (NYC).

Police arrived at the home on E. 56th St. near Flatlands Ave. in Flatlands around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday and entered to find a woman dead in the kitchen, police posted. Daily News. His name was not immediately released and it is unclear who tipped off the NYPD.

An autopsy has been scheduled to officially confirm how and when the woman died. Detectives were canvassing the area for surveillance footage that may have captured someone entering or leaving the home before the victim was discovered dead.

Last week, a couple planning to marry died in Staten Island (NYC) in an apparent murder-suicide amid a string of family tragedies. The woman was stabbed multiple times, while the man’s body showed no obvious signs of trauma.

This week, Melvin Gomez Nunez, a 42-year-old father, was stabbed to death during an early-morning street fight that also left two men injured in Brooklyn. Stabbings and slashings are common in New York City overall. There were 4,493 cases in 2023 through early December, a 6% increase over the same period in 2022. In parallel, arrests for knife crimes increased by almost 30%.

A previous NYPD report warned in August 2023 that fatal stabbings had risen 29% that year in the city compared to before the pandemic (2019). Knife attacks have become more frequent in various settings: streets, buildings, homes, buses, subways, parties, schools, and even commercial establishments and ATM areas.

Last week, Shakel Maldonado was arrested on suspicion of stabbing his neighbor Nathaniel Thomas III, a singer in a Brooklyn church choir, to death over an apparent long-standing dispute over loud music, according to police and prosecutors.

In early July, a Dominican father was stabbed to death during a brawl that began with a minor clash in broad daylight in the Bronx (NYC).
