Vice President Kamala Harris received a lengthy standing ovation from a crowd chanting “Kamala!” and “USA!” when she took the stage Friday night at the Democratic National Convention at Chicago’s United Center.
He calmed them down by saying, “Let’s get to work!”
Harris thanked her husband Doug Emhoff and wished him a happy anniversary: “I love you so much.” Today is the couple’s 10th wedding anniversary.
She also thanked President Joe Biden. “When I think about the journey we’ve taken together, Joe, I am filled with gratitude. Your journey is extraordinary, as history will show. Your character is inspiring. Doug and I love you, and Jill and I will be forever grateful to both of you,” she said.
To “Coach Tim Walz,” he said, “you’re going to be an incredible vice president.”
Harris called for unity in the United States in her acceptance speech, promising Americans that she will be “a president for all.”
“I know there are people of all political views watching tonight. And I want them to know: I promise to be a president for all Americans,” she said in her speech.

“America, the path that brought me here in the last few weeks was certainly unexpected. But I am no stranger to improbable journeys,” she says. “My mother, Shyamala Harris, had a [desafío] own. I miss her every day, especially now. And I know that tonight she is looking down on me and smiling.”
As a Harris-Walz campaign official teased Wednesday,
