In an impassioned speech, Oprah Winfrey, one of the most influential personalities in American entertainment, called on the nation to support Vice President Kamala Harris on her path to the White House during the Democratic National Convention.
“Let us choose truth. Let us choose honor and let us choose joy!” exclaimed Oprah, receiving a standing ovation and chants of “USA, USA!”
Winfrey highlighted Harris’ origins, the daughter of an Indian immigrant and a Jamaican immigrant, and her journey to becoming a candidate for the presidency of the United States.
Oprah, known for her support of Democratic figures such as former President Barack Obama, had a special message for independent voters and undecided voters: “You know this is true. You know I am telling you the truth: that values and character are what matters most, both in leadership and in life,” she said.
He asks them to choose “common sense over nonsense”
The presenter stressed the importance of choosing “common sense over nonsense” and recalled the impact of her endorsement of Obama in the 2008 election. In 2016, although she supported Hillary Clinton, she stayed away from the campaign. In 2020, her support for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris was crucial to the Democratic victory.
Winfrey’s endorsement of Harris, along with her active participation in campaign events, is expected to be instrumental in mobilizing voters in the upcoming November elections, where Harris will face former president and Republican candidate Donald Trump.
